ACUTE KIDNEY INJURY

THE PROJECT AIM

Reporting visualised summaries of Acute Kidney Injury patients to track and monitor AKI progression and activity across hospitals in Manchester for a reputable healthcare organisation.

The dashboard aims to support clinicians in identifying new quality standards for patients by measuring elective/ non-elective admissions, readmissions within a 30-day or 90-day period, and patients with Acute Kidney Injury mentioned on a discharge letter.

THE METHODOLOGY

For the Acute Kidney Injury project, I extracted data from electronic patient records stored in an SQL database by creating a dedicated script to retrieve the necessary details.

To improve usability, I collaborated with the client to establish a new specification tailored to their needs. The original script, containing over 2,000 lines of code, was restructured and optimised to just 200 lines, significantly reducing its impact on the company’s server. After ensuring the script executed efficiently, I redesigned the dashboard, condensing it from 20 pages to a concise, user-friendly two-page format. This redevelopment enhanced the clarity and accessibility of the data, empowering the client to make more effective decisions.

THE PROBLEM

This project involved redeveloping an outdated dashboard that previously presented the same information but was overly complex, spanning over 20 pages and making it difficult for the client to access insights directly.
